Officer Needs Assistance

Officers and firefighters face many risks on and off duty. Because of these risks, officers and firefighters are injured, suffer medical ailments, and are sometimes simply the victims of chance. This page is here to show how you can help when an officer or firefighter needs assistance.

Rally for Rawa

In the early morning hours of July 13, 2007, K-9 Officer Bob Rawa an 18 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department was suddenly struck down by a brain aneurysm while driving home from a second job. Linda Rawa and her children, 3 year old Robert and 1 year old Holly lay sleeping in their home on the northwest side of Chicago.

The doctors told Linda that there was no hope for his recovery. Their lives would be changed forever. Just two weeks prior, Linda told Bob that they were expecting their third child.

In early October, Linda began to have complications with her pregnancy. On October 18, at only 21 weeks into her pregnancy, the doctors delivered Carly, who was passed away shortly thereafter.

Stone Park Officer

Our brother officer Ivano was killed tragically in a motorcycle accident while off duty.  He was 33, and left behind a wife and three small children (10, 8, and 6)  Being that he was off duty and only had seven years on the job, he was not vested and had no death benefits from the pension.  We are having a fund raiser and Poker Run to benefit his family.  Early purchases of tickets can be made prior to the dates at a discounted rate.  Should you have any questions please contact me at (708) 450-3215.
Thanks for your support,

Watseka Firefighter’s Families
 Need Your Help!

We have all heard of the flooding that Watseka residents suffered in January, 2008. What most people don’t know is, 14 of our brother’s and sister’s families in the fire service suffered losses there as well and 2 families lost EVERYTHING! These firefighters were out in the cold and wet serving their communities while their precious belongings were being destroyed. Life isn’t fair but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about it.

We will be hosting a poker run called “Ride for the Rescuers” in the near future (probably May or June) but their needs are NOW. Especially since the Feds are dragging their feet with assistance.  An account has been set up in Watseka with the funds to be managed directly by the Watseka Area Firefighter’s Association. These monies will go directly to Watseka area firefighter families to aid in their distress.

Let our firefighter’s know you appreciate their sacrifices and that you keep them in your hearts and minds.

Friends of Jorge Tamez

It is not only work related injuries that strike officers. Jorge Tamez, a Chicago Police Officer who also served in our military, has Oral Cancer. A benefit for was held in February, but he still needs our help for mounting medical bills. Please take a look at the web page: http://www.geocities.com/baughnet/friends_of_jorge_tamez.html
